:: Study abroad in the USA

You may be dreaming of studying in the U.S.A. for a long time, or may be you have discovered that you need to improve your English in order to continue your studies or career. USA has a very advanced education system that varies greatly across the country. It might be better to think of the country in smaller terms, perhaps by region like north-east, north-west, south-west, deep south and mid-west. The US has the largest number of universities in the world and currently has seven out of the top ten World University Rankings - Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale, Stanford, CalTech, Berkeley and Princeton. In total there are literally hundreds of public and private higher education establishments offering a range of courses that you could barely imagine. The first trick is to work out the kind of courses that you’d like to do and then bear in mind the cost. Some private institutions charge thousands and thousands of dollars while others, such as community colleges, prevalent all over the country, are significantly less expensive.

U.S. universities may differ from those in our country in several ways. For one thing, classes are generally small. There may be as few as ten to twenty students in a class. While in class, students are encouraged and expected to contribute to the discussion. Professors meet with students in their offices or even share coffee or meals with them. The close relationship between students and faculty serves to motivate students and fosters a personal approach to the curriculum.

Most U.S. university students live on or near the school campus. When you are studying in the U.S.A., you will have many opportunities to join planned and informal activities, spending your leisure and study hours with other students. This will enhance your language skills. From your fellow students you will learn about U.S. culture and about all the other diverse cultures represented on any U.S. campus.

Students who are considering studying abroad in The Land Down Under, there are a number of factors that can help make your decision easier. First and foremost is the culture: Australia has the benefit of being both exotic and recognizable: "The primary basis of Australian culture up until the mid-20th century was Anglo-Celtic, although distinctive Australian features had been evolving from the environment and indigenous culture. Over the past 50 years, Australian culture has been strongly influenced by American popular culture (particularly television and cinema), large-scale immigration from non-English-speaking countries, and Australia's Asian neighbors" In this sense, then, living in Australia is both brand new and comfortingly familiar.

:: Study abroad in the South Korea

The Korean peninsula’s location lies adjacent to China, and Japan. To be exact, the shortest distance between Korean and Chinese coasts is 200 kilometers and from the southeastern tip of the peninsula, it is also 200 kilometers away to the nearest point on the Japanese coast. Because of its unique geographical location, this makes Korea very viable piece of land and an international hub of Asia. South Korean high school education is largely based on the Japanese system, which means that it is highly exam-based with a great deal of rote-learning and less room for creativity in the classroom than many Westerners are used to. Inevitably, this has an influence on the system at undergraduate level too. However South Korean culture places a very high emphasis on education and getting into the best schools is seen as one of the most important targets that a South Korean has.
Getting out into the country is a great way to experience South Korea. It is a small country but extremely varied and diverse and trips out of the big cities can be more rewarding than in many other places. English is spoken to a certain extent, in the cities especially, and South Koreans are well educated and generally less timid than their Japanese neighbours when speaking foreign languages. Of course, you will be a big hit if you learn some South Korean to show willing to your hosts. Although the writing system (hangul) looks alien to non-South Koreans, it is actually simpler than it looks. Give it a try. It will improve your living experience in South Korea many times over.
